Barnetby, not Scunthorpe, and on the Monday that is a real problem Both Lincolnshire tickets are written to and from Barnetby, about 11 miles east of Scunthorpe. Both trains call at Scunthorpe as well.

Sunday is fine either way. If Ben's parents are in Scunthorpe you get off at 17:07 instead of riding on to 17:22. Ending an Advance journey short of its destination is allowed; you simply forfeit the last stop.

Monday is not. That ticket starts at Barnetby at 16:53 and reaches Scunthorpe at 17:08. Joining an Advance short of its origin is not permitted, so boarding at Scunthorpe on a Barnetby ticket is formally an excess-fare situation, whatever any individual guard does on the day.

So confirm which it is. If they are near Barnetby, or can drop you there, use the tickets exactly as issued. If they are in Scunthorpe, either get a lift the 11 miles to Barnetby for 16:53, or buy a cheap Scunthorpe to Barnetby single so the Advance starts where it says it starts.

The steep hill, and the 6pm cutoff Assisted check-in runs 15:00 to 18:00. That is the service where they drive you and all your luggage up to the tent. Outside that window you walk it, and the car park is a five to ten minute climb up a steep hill. With four days of bags and wet ninja kit, that is the difference between a nice arrival and a miserable one.

You are arriving at 18:00 on the Wednesday, which is the exact last minute of it. Their confirmation says that after 6pm you self check in, and that if you tell them in advance they will send the instructions including your tent number and door code. So ring and say 18:00 either way: worst case you have the code in your pocket and lose nothing.

Check-out is different from what I assumed. Their wording: "check out is at 10am, a team member will come and collect you at that time." That is a scheduled collection, not a deadline you can simply beat. You are leaving at 08:30 for the kayak, so the early lift down has to be agreed in advance. Put it in the same phone call.

Dinner is easier than I thought: there is a restaurant on site Plas Weunydd's restaurant runs 17:00 to 20:45, two minutes from the tents, and the confirmation links a booking page for it. Arriving at 18:00 with no shopping done is therefore a non-problem. Book a table for Wednesday when you ring about check-in.

Breakfast is served 08:00 to 10:30 at the hotel, which matters on Thursday because you need to be checked in at Zip World by 09:30. Eat at 08:00.

If you would rather cook, the pre-arrival extras page has BBQ packs, pizza-oven kits, drinks, logs and charcoal: plasweunydd.co.uk/prearrival-extras/llechwedd. Some extras need more notice than others, and the page says which.

Watch for the parking QR code, and do not ignore it Parking is free to glamping guests, but the confirmation warns that a neighbouring company runs CCTV enforcement on vehicles entering the site. They send you a QR code a few days before arrival to scan and exempt your car.

Your car sits there for two nights. If that email goes unread or lands in spam, you are exposed to a charge for every day of it. Watch for it from around Saturday 29 August, and if nothing has arrived by the Tuesday, ring and ask.

One thing this reverses You asked for two rooms. A glamping tent is a single open space. If the point was privacy between you and Ben, this trades it away for the location, the log burner and being 0.2 miles from Thursday's zip lines.

Llandudno is now one night, not two Tuesday only, and on the two-room basis it comes in at roughly £110 to £130. Watch the unit breakdown when you book: several of the cheapest Llandudno listings satisfy a two-room search with a single one-bedroom apartment.

⚠️ The car

Ben has booked it. Practical Car & Van Rental, Glossop, ref (G094)-13199B.

The location is the win. Glossop is two miles from Hadfield. Every alternative I priced ended with the car being returned at Manchester Airport, twenty-seven miles the wrong side of the kids. This one collects and returns on their doorstep.

And the timing works. Your rail tickets put you in Hadfield on Monday evening at 20:11, so you wake up two miles from the depot and stroll in for 10:00.

What is left is paperwork, and it is not trivial. Nothing has been paid, the name on the booking does not match the details on it, and the mileage limit is unpublished.

Nothing has been paid, and the branch normally takes £25 to hold a booking The confirmation says Amount Paid £0.00. Glossop's own local terms say: "we take a £25 reservation deposit upon reservation. If you cancel with less than 48 hours notice, we will retain this fee." No money has changed hands, so ring and confirm the vehicle is actually held. This is the first call to make, before anything else on this page.

It says Benjamin Rawlings, but every personal detail on it is yours The confirmation is addressed to Ben and says the booking was sent by Ben. The shipping and billing block underneath carries your London address, your email, your date of birth and your phone number. Practical will not wave that through. Their conditions require each driver to produce an original licence plus two original ID documents, one proving the name and one proving the address, and the contract is with the named hirer.

So decide now, and tell them: whose name is the contract in, and who is driving? Either way, additional drivers cost extra and each needs their own licence, share code and two IDs. If only one of you is on the contract, only one of you can legally drive to Wales and back.

The four things to ask on the phone

Ask	Why it matters
What is the mileage limit, and the excess mileage rate?	The biggest unknown by far. Practical's terms say rentals include "mileage (subject to local limits)" and Glossop publishes no figure. This trip is roughly 350 to 420 miles over four days. A 100-mile-a-day cap gives you 400 and you could tip over. A 150-a-day cap and you are comfortable. Get the number in writing.
What excess remains after the Gold CDW, and what is excluded?	You have paid £80 for CDW. Tyres, glass, underbody and misfuelling are commonly still excluded even with it. Ask which.
Is a small 5 door enough for four people and four days of bags?	Two adults, two children, luggage, wet kit from the kayak and the ninja course, and a booster seat. Their terms say if your booked vehicle is unavailable you get a free upgrade to the next group, so ask what is on the yard.
Can we collect earlier than 10:00, and do you do meet-and-greet?	The branch opens at 08:30 and advertises a pick-up service by prior arrangement plus late night drop off. An earlier start buys you the Tuesday afternoon in Wales.

What you have to bring, and when to get it

The share code has a 72-hour window, so do not do it early The email tells you to get a DVLA share code in advance. Practical's own conditions say something narrower: "You may check your licence yourself online no more than 72 hours in advance." For a Tuesday 1 September collection that means generating it on Saturday 29 or Sunday 30 August, and not before. Get it at gov.uk/view-driving-licence; you need the 16-digit driver number, your National Insurance number and your postcode. The code is case sensitive.

If the website will not play, DVLA will issue one by phone on 0300 083 0013, Monday to Friday 08:00 to 19:00 and Saturday 08:00 to 14:00 only. That Saturday cut-off is why you want this done on the Saturday morning. You are on a coach all Sunday lunchtime.

Original documents only, nothing printed off the internet Their conditions are explicit: two items per driver, one proving name and one proving address, and "we can only accept original documents, not printed off the internet." A downloaded bank statement or a PDF utility bill will not do. If neither of you has a recent posted bill or statement, request one now, because post takes a week. The email also asks for your National Insurance number.

No cash. Their insurance forbids it. Card only, for both the £264 and the £200 deposit, and the deposit generally needs to be in the hirer's name.

Remember you are carrying all of this on a coach and three trains before you get there. Keep it somewhere that is not the bottom of a rucksack.

Friday: the car goes back at Glossop, but the train leaves from Hadfield Two stations two miles apart, on different branches of the same line, so there is no sensible train between them. Plan a lift or a taxi.

The timing is generous. Car back at 17:00, train at 20:14. Over three hours of slack, which on the last day is a gift rather than a waste.

Two smaller things Nancy's booster seat. Ask her parents for it at the Tuesday pickup rather than paying Practical for one. UK law requires a child seat until 12 years or 135 cm, whichever comes first. Measure Freddie: over 135 cm and he is legally exempt.

Cancellation. Head office terms allow free cancellation up to 24 hours before. Glossop's local term is 48 hours. If anything about this is going to change, the decision point is Saturday 29 August.

Friday is the one day with no slack, and the numbers are worse than I had them Two drives bracket the canoe, and I had both of them too short. Llechwedd to Trevor Basin is 1h25, and Trevor Basin to Glossop is 2 hours over 70.8 miles. That is three and a half hours of driving around a three-hour activity, on the day the car has a hard 17:00 deadline.

Two consequences. You have to leave the tent at 07:45, which is why the early luggage lift matters. And an afternoon canoe session is impossible: a 16:30 finish would put the car back at Glossop around 18:30, an hour after the branch shuts.

🛶 Friday: canoe, or not

Live availability checked for Friday 4 September 2026. Prices are the total for two adults plus Nancy (8) and Freddie (10). Both children are 8 or over, so on most operators they pay the standard rate; Ty Nant is the one with a cheaper under-13 price.

The constraint that eliminates half the market The car has a hard 17:00 return at Glossop, and Trevor Basin to Glossop is 2 hours over 70.8 miles, plus half an hour dropping the kids at Hadfield. So the canoe has to be finished by about 12:30, and absolutely no later than 13:30.

That kills every afternoon and evening slot on every operator. Do not be tempted by the cheaper evening prices.

1. TNR Outdoors, 10:00 to 12:30 · £180 · 01978 860 700

The best of the five, and the cheapest £45 per person, £180 for the four of you. Age 8 or over, children accompanied by an adult. 2.5 hours, AM session 10:00 to 12:30, and their booking system shows it available on your Friday.

The 10:00 start is what wins it. Every other option needs you out of the tent by 07:45 or earlier; this one gives you until about 08:20, which after two nights under canvas is worth a lot. It also finishes at 12:30 with the whole afternoon buffer intact.

2. Bearded Men Adventures, 09:30 · £200

The one with 5,168 five-star reviews £50 per person on the Weekday Morning rate, £200 for four. 2.5 hours, so finished about 12:00. Shown as available for Friday.

Age 4+, which is the most forgiving minimum of any operator here, so there is no question at all about Nancy. Weight limit 120 kg. Their Google rating is 5.0 from 5,168 reviews, which is far more social proof than anyone else in the valley.

Costs £20 more than TNR and needs you away by 07:45. Worth it if reviews matter more to you than the lie-in.

3. Bearded Men Adventures, 08:30 Early Bird · £180

Cheapest, biggest buffer, brutal alarm £45 per person, £180 for four, on their Early Bird rate. Finished by about 11:00, which leaves an enormous cushion on the one day that has none.

The cost is real though: a 08:30 meet means leaving the tent around 06:45, and the luggage lift down the hill before that. After two nights camping and a day of zip lines, judge honestly whether the four of you will manage it.

4. Ty Nant Outdoors, 09:30 to 12:30 · £230 · 07814 922 437

The longest time on the water, and the vertigo fallback £60 each for you and Ben, £55 each for the children, £230 total. Age 8+. 3 hours, the longest of the five, and it crosses the aqueduct at least twice rather than once.

Meet at Trevor Basin, parked by 09:15, back at the basin about 12:15. Public toilets at the meeting point.

Its real edge is the get-out: Ty Nant also run a Chirk Aqueduct and Tunnel tour, more protected with no sheer drop beside you. If Nancy takes one look at 38 metres and changes her mind, that is a same-day alternative nobody else offers. They also do an adapted kayak version, and ask anyone over 16 stone to call first.

5. Bearded Men Adventures, 12:30 · £240

Only if every morning slot has gone, and it puts the car at risk £60 per person on the Peak rate, £240 for four, finishing about 15:00. Two hours from Trevor to Glossop puts you at the depot at 17:00 exactly, with no time to drop the kids at Hadfield and nothing left if the M56 misbehaves.

Listed for completeness because it is bookable. I would not take it.

What I would do Book TNR Outdoors at 10:00 for £180. It is the cheapest, it has the latest start that still works, and 8+ covers Nancy.

Ring them on 01978 860 700 and ask two things: where exactly the trip meets, and what happens if the weather turns, because this is the one genuinely weather-exposed item in the week.

If they cannot take four, go straight to Bearded Men at 09:30. Their 13:00 Friday slot showed only 4 places left when I looked, so the popular slots on this route do sell out.

If you skip the canoe

First, the thing that surprised me: dropping it barely saves any driving Llechwedd to Hadfield direct is 2h34 over 106 miles. Going via Trevor Basin is 1h25 plus 2h00, so 3h25. Llangollen genuinely is on the way, and the canoe detour costs you only about 50 minutes of driving.

What it actually costs is the 07:45 alarm and £180 to £230. Those are the things you get back, not the day.

Without it, Friday has the standard 10:00 check-out, no early luggage lift to arrange, and you need to be at Hadfield by about 16:15. Take out 2h34 of driving and that leaves roughly 3h40 of free time to spend somewhere on the route.

A. The same aqueduct, by boat · £25 for all four · 45 minutes

Anglo Welsh "Little Star", and it is the answer to your question It crosses the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and back with a commentary, from Trevor Basin, the exact spot the canoes launch from. Same 126 feet up, same stream in the sky, no paddling.

£10 adult, £6 per child under 16, or a family ticket at £25 for two adults and two children. Departures at 11:00, 12:00, 13:30, 14:30 and 15:30, running to 31 October. Book online up to 24 hours ahead or pay on the day, card or cash, arrive ten minutes before. Parking is the Acrefair pay and display.

Against the canoe that is £155 to £205 saved and two hours of your last morning back. Leave at the normal 10:00 check-out, reach Trevor about 11:25, take the 12:00, off the boat at 12:45, lunch, away by 13:45, Hadfield by 15:45.

B. Walk across it · free

The towpath crosses the aqueduct, and anyone can walk it Twenty minutes there and back, no booking, no cost. Worth knowing that it is arguably more frightening than the boat: there is a railing on the towpath side and nothing at all on the canal side, so the drop is right there beside you.

The Canal & River Trust visitor centre is at Trevor Basin, so this pairs naturally with a coffee and a look at how the thing was built. If the kids are ambivalent about the whole idea, do this and see how they react before spending anything.

C. Llechwedd Deep Mine Tour · about £124 · no extra driving at all

Stay put, then drive straight home £31 each, and crucially it has no height or age restrictions whatsoever, which nothing else on this trip can say. It is 0.2 miles from the tent, so you do it first thing, check out, and drive.

The honest objection: it would be your third consecutive day underground at the same site, after Bounce Below and Titan. Good value, possibly one cavern too many.

D. Chirk Castle · roughly £50 to £57, free for National Trust members

A real medieval fortress, and it is on the A5 Thirteenth-century, open roughly 10:00 to 17:00, with gardens and a family trail. Prices move with the season but budget around £14 to £19 an adult and £7 to £9.50 a child, so £50 to £57 for the four of you, and nothing at all if either of you has NT membership.

After three days of zip lines, ninja courses and caverns, a castle is a genuine change of texture rather than more of the same.

E. Chester · free to wander

Directly on the route home, and it costs nothing The city walls, the Rows and the Roman amphitheatre, all walkable in a couple of hours, plenty of places to eat, and easy to cut short if you are running late. It sits right on the M56 leg, so it adds almost no mileage.

The one to pick if you want the last day to feel unhurried rather than scheduled.

And the option nobody lists: do nothing Leave at 10:00, drive straight through, and you are at Hadfield by 12:35. That hands Nancy and Freddie's family a long afternoon with them before you get the train, on the last day of a week that has been relentless.

It is not a failure of planning. Four days of zip lines, ninja courses, caverns and beaches is a lot for an 8-year-old, and an unplanned afternoon at home may be the thing they remember fondly.

What I would actually do Take the £25 boat at 12:00. You keep the aqueduct, which is the thing worth having, and you lose the 07:45 alarm, the early luggage lift and about £180. Then Chester on the way if there is appetite, or straight to Hadfield if there is not.

Book the canoe only if paddling it yourself is the point. It is a better experience, and it costs you a hard morning and roughly seven times the money.

A Llangollen day, checked against the clock

The window is 3 hours 20, and the suggested list is about double that Leave at the standard 10:00 check-out, Llechwedd to Llangollen is 1h10, so you arrive about 11:10. Llangollen to Hadfield is 1h32 over 73.9 miles, and you need to be there by 16:15 to hand the kids over and get the car to Glossop for 17:00. So you leave Llangollen by 14:30.

That is lunch plus two things. Not the aqueduct walk and the castle hike and one or two afternoon options.

Castell Dinas Brân "the castle hike"	Pick this or the aqueduct, not both. It is a steep climb, realistically 1.5 to 2 hours round trip with a breather at the top. The aqueduct is five miles east at Trevor, so doing both means the climb plus 25 minutes of driving plus the walk. That is your entire window before you have eaten.
Horseshoe Falls	Good, and it fits. About two miles west of town, free, shallow water to paddle in, easy hour. The low-effort option if energy has gone.
Plas Newydd	Works. Open every day 11:00 to 16:00, about £9 an adult, 4.6 from 445 reviews. One caution: do not confuse it with the National Trust's Plas Newydd, which is on Anglesey, two hours away. Yours is the Denbighshire one in Llangollen town, home of the Ladies of Llangollen.
Horse-drawn boat, Llangollen Wharf	Lovely, but it does not cross the aqueduct. The horse-drawn trips run west towards Horseshoe Falls, 45 minutes. The aqueduct boat from the Wharf is the separate two-hour motorised trip. If the aqueduct is the point, take the Anglo Welsh boat from Trevor instead: 45 minutes and a £25 family ticket.
The Little Pickle · Dee Side Cafe Bistro	I have not verified either by name. Llangollen is small and full of places to eat, so this is a five-minute check on the day rather than something to plan around.

You get the aqueduct twice, on foot and by boat, a proper lunch, and you arrive with slack. Total spend: £25.

If the castle matters more than the aqueduct, the swap is: skip Trevor entirely, drive straight to Llangollen for 11:25, climb Dinas Brân until about 13:15, late lunch, leave 14:30. Doable, but there is no margin and it is a hard climb at the end of a long week.

Could the canoe move to Tuesday?

Availability answers it before the logistics do I pulled the live calendar for Tuesday 1 September. Bearded Men's afternoon slots, the only ones you could physically reach, are nearly sold out:

12:30 Peak: 2 places left. 13:00 Peak: 3 places left. 13:30 Peak: 1 place left.

None of them can take four. The slots that do have room are 08:30, 16:30 and 17:30, and all three are unusable: you do not collect the car until 10:00, and the late ones leave you driving to Llandudno at 19:00 or 20:00 the night before ninja day.

Compare Friday, where 08:30, 09:30, 12:30, 16:30 and 17:30 all had space. Friday is simply the better day to be asking.

What Tuesday would look like if you forced it

Ty Nant's fixed 13:30 to 16:30 session, or TNR's 14:00, are the only shapes that fit. Both would need a phone call, since neither publishes live availability.

It costs you the whole of Tuesday's plan Talacre Beach and the Welsh Mountain Zoo both go. They are on the north coast; Llangollen is inland and south. You cannot do a 13:30 to 16:30 canoe and a zoo whose last admission is 16:00.

It also turns the kids' first day into a driving day: 2h47 behind the wheel with two children who have just been collected, against roughly two hours broken up by a beach and a zoo.

The variant that nearly works: canoe Tuesday, zoo Friday Move the Welsh Mountain Zoo to Friday and the swap gets much more interesting. Llechwedd to Colwyn Bay is roughly 45 minutes north, and Colwyn Bay to Hadfield runs the fast A55 and M56, roughly 2 hours. That is about 2h45 of driving against the 2h34 of going straight home, so the zoo costs you only around ten extra minutes on the Friday.

Arrive at the zoo about 10:45, leave at 14:15, and you have three and a half hours there, comfortably inside the 16:00 last admission. The only casualty in the whole rearrangement is Talacre Beach.

Two caveats. Those Colwyn Bay drive times are estimates; my browser dropped before I could verify them, so check before committing. And it still depends on Ty Nant or TNR having four places on the Tuesday afternoon, which is a phone call.

My answer Leave it on Friday. Tuesday's afternoon slots cannot take a party of four at the operator with live availability, and forcing it costs you the beach and the zoo on the children's first day, in exchange for a 2h47 drive.

If you genuinely prefer the canoe to the beach-and-zoo day, the canoe Tuesday plus zoo Friday version is the one to pursue, and the calls to make are Ty Nant on 07814 922 437 and TNR on 01978 860 700, asking specifically for four places on Tuesday afternoon.

Do the times and prices change by day?

Short answer: no. Times and prices are identical across Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. All three are weekdays, and every operator runs the same weekday timetable at the same weekday rates. What genuinely differs day to day is availability, and that is the only thing that has ever pushed one day above another in this plan.

The one price trap, and it is about the hour rather than the date Bearded Men band their rates by time of day: £45 at 08:30, £50 at 09:00, 09:30, 17:00 and 17:30, and £60 at 12:30, 13:00, 13:30 and 16:30.

So moving from a morning slot to an afternoon one costs you £10 a head, £40 for the four of you, on the very same day. That is why the builder shows £200 for a Wednesday 09:30 canoe but £240 for an afternoon one. Nothing to do with which day it is.

TNR and Ty Nant both charge flat rates, so with them the hour makes no difference at all.

What I actually checked, and what I did not Bearded Men publishes live availability, and I read it for Monday 31 August through Friday 4 September. That is where the Tuesday problem came from: 12:30 with 2 places, 13:00 with 3, 13:30 with 1.

TNR publishes live availability too, but I only got Thursday, Friday and Saturday before my browser connection dropped. Thursday showed no availability, Friday showed 10:00 and 13:30. Tuesday and Wednesday are unchecked.

Ty Nant publishes none at all. Their price and session times are on their site, but every date is a phone call.

One small inconsistency worth knowing: TNR's website lists the afternoon session as 14:00, while their booking engine offered 13:30. Confirm which when you ring.

🥷 Ninja day: everything about Adventure Parc

The single most important fact: it opens at 13:45 Adrenaline Indoors runs Wednesday to Friday 13:45 to 18:00 only. There is no morning session midweek. If you turn up at 11am you will be stood in a car park. That is why the waterfalls fill Wednesday morning.

(Outdoor Adventures run 09:00 to 17:00 daily, but the ninja course, caving and climbing are all indoors.)

My recommended ninja afternoon Ninja Assault & Adrenaline Drop at 13:45, then Altitude Climb at 15:00. Two activities each is £160 for four. If you want a third, add the Pump Track at £3 a head: £12, and you are done by 17:00 with time to eat before the drive.

Ask this when you book For caving and climbing, ages 5 to 9 need a non-participating adult in the activity area. It is not published whether that supervising adult still pays the £20. Ask: across two activities it is the difference between £160 and £120.

One thing to tell the kids honestly The Leap of Faith is 9 or 12 metres: roughly three or four storeys. It is a real step off a real platform, harnessed. Some children love it and some freeze at the edge. Worth mentioning in the car so it is not a surprise, and there is no shame in choosing the lower platform.

Zip World Llechwedd, Thursday

ACTION REQUIRED: every one of you must sign a waiver before you arrive Zip World's confirmation is blunt about it. All four participants must sign the online waiver in advance, children included, with an adult completing it on their behalf. Their wording: failure to complete means you will not be able to participate on the day.

This is a hard blocker, it costs nothing, and it takes five minutes. Do it tonight. The link is in the confirmation email under "Sign online waiver", and quoting booking 03659512 gets you there if you need to ring.

The two arrival times are the thing to hold in your head This is not one session, it is two, with a gap in the middle. 09:30 and 12:30. Bounce Below runs about an hour from 10:00, which leaves you roughly 11:15 to 12:20 for lunch at the Caffi. Enough, but do not wander off to Cwmorthin in between.

Titan starts at 13:00 and runs about two hours, so you are free from around 15:00 with the whole afternoon left.

Parking is paid, but it is an 8-hour clock You have 8 hours of Llechwedd parking already paid, so ignore the RingGo instructions in the confirmation. Arriving at 09:15 means it expires around 17:15. That is plenty for both sessions plus a walk, but not unlimited.

Separately, the glamping confirmation says a neighbouring company runs CCTV parking enforcement on entering the site, and that guests get a QR code a few days before arrival to exempt their vehicle. See the Beds section: that one matters more, because your car sits there for two nights.

Realistic middle: about £2,000, with the £200 car deposit held on top until the car is back. The coach and all rail are already paid. The two biggest single lines are Zip World at £347 and the tent at £360, and both are now paid. The only genuinely unbooked spend left is Adventure Parc, the Llandudno room and the canoe.

Things you need to know

Footwear will get you turned away, this is the big one Both Zip World activities require closed-toe, flat shoes: trainers or boots. Explicitly refused: open-toed shoes, heels, Crocs and flip-flops. Adventure Parc is the same in practice. This is the most common reason people are turned away, and you would have driven to find out.

It is 6 to 8°C underground, all year Zip World state the cavern holds a steady 6 to 8 degrees whatever the weather outside, and that T-shirts, shorts and jewellery are not recommended. Everyone needs a jumper or fleece on Thursday even if the coast is warm. The tent has a log burner, so evenings are fine.

Driving notes

No tolls anywhere on these routes. Keep the satnav off the Mersey Gateway, there are no barriers and no reminder, and an unpaid £2.40 becomes a £50 penalty.
The A470 up the Conwy valley on Wednesday evening is one of the best drives in Wales, and equally slow. The 35 minutes assumes a clear run.
Do not drive up the hill to the tent. They ask you not to. Park at the bottom and let them run you up.
Photograph the hire car before you drive off, every panel and the fuel gauge, and confirm the mileage limit is written on the paperwork.
Refuel before Hadfield on the Friday. The return is almost certainly full-to-full, and there is no petrol station beside the depot.

FAQs

What is the one thing most likely to go wrong?

An unsigned waiver. It is the only thing on the list that can cost you £347 of already-spent tickets on the morning itself, and it takes five minutes to remove. After that, Wednesday's 18:00 check-in: the exact last minute of assisted check-in, at the end of a day that runs from a Llandudno checkout through waterfalls, a ninja course and a 35-minute drive.

Neutralise it with one phone call: tell them 18:00, and get the self check-in instructions as a backup even if you expect to make it.

Can we still get any discounts?

What if it rains the whole week?

You are unusually well covered. Wednesday's ninja centre is entirely indoors. Thursday's Bounce Below is inside a cavern and Zip World describe it as weather-proof; Titan runs in rain and only stops for high wind or lightning. The tent has a log burner and electric heaters.

Tuesday's beach is the weather-dependent bit. If it is grim, skip Talacre and go straight to the zoo, or add the Great Orme copper mines in Llandudno, which are underground.

Only Friday's canoe is genuinely weather-sensitive. Ask Ty Nant about their wind and weather cancellation policy when you ring, and remember the Chirk Aqueduct tour is their sheltered alternative.

What if a child refuses to do something on the day?

Likely at some point, and the plan absorbs it. Bounce Below is the gentler one, Zip World rate it 2 out of 5 for adrenaline. Titan is the bigger ask, and the Leap of Faith on Wednesday is a genuine step off a platform.

Because Titan needs one participating adult per three children and you have two adults, one of you can go with the willing child while the other stays behind. You will not face an all-or-nothing choice at the platform.

Assume tickets are spent. No refund policy is published for cold feet on the day.

Is the tent going to be cold or awkward with two kids?

It is a wool-lined safari tent with a log burner and electric heaters, an en-suite with a hot shower, and proper beds with linen and towels provided. Reviewers repeatedly mention comfortable beds and families with children. It scores 9.0 from 199 reviews.

The genuine friction is the hill. It is a five to ten minute steep walk from the car park, and you will do it during your stay, not just at check-in. Pack so that you are not making three trips.

Do we need travel insurance?

Nothing mandatory for a UK trip, but if you are relying on an annual policy, check it covers "hazardous activities": zip lines and high ropes are sometimes excluded.

For the hire car, Ben has already taken Practical's CDW at £20 a day, £80 in total, on their "Gold" excess band. Ask what excess still remains and whether tyres, glass, underbody and misfuelling are covered, because those are commonly excluded even with a waiver.

What is the parking situation everywhere?

Llechwedd Glamping: park at the bottom of the hill, do not drive up.
Zip World Llechwedd: free if you pre-book two or more adventures in one transaction. Register the plate regardless.
Adventure Parc: free on site.
Llandudno promenade: free after 4pm.
Talacre beach: paid, roughly £5.
Betws-y-Coed: pay and display in the village.

Is anything quieter or busier because of school dates?

In your favour. Welsh schools return around 1 to 2 September and English schools 2 to 3 September, so Wednesday and Thursday will be noticeably quieter than the same days a week earlier. Shorter queues at both the ninja centre and Zip World.

The trade-off is exactly what cost you the Zip World discounts: operators end summer promotions on 1 September precisely because demand falls away.
